Welcome to the County of Mendocino. This area is located on the north coast of California. The county remains a picture-perfect landscape, ideal for travel and tourism, filled with beaches, parks, inns and wineries. There is plenty to do wherever you might be in Mendocino. The small populated county is great for any one hoping to enjoy scenic outdoor travel along the magnificent Northern California coast.

Location on the MapThe county has only a few major highways that run through breathtaking terrain, with Highway 101 being the largest road. Beautiful Highway One (1), on the coast, just might be the most amazing route in the US.
Mendocino County is located between Humboldt County to the north and Sonoma County to the South. Santa Rosa and San Francisco are the two closest major cities. The largest town in the county is Ukiah. Click here for directions to Mendocino.

Areas of the CountyThe county can be separated into four (4) major areas, the first being the Northern Mendocino Coast. This area of the coast is probably the most beautiful area of the whole county; it is abundant in beaches, bed and breakfast inns, and is home to the historical village of Mendocino. The second area is Anderson Valley, a cottage wine industry region. The towns in Anderson Valley run along the valley, scattered with wineries and vineyards, most with complimentary tasting rooms. Come enjoy the Mendocino wine county. The South Coast of Mendocino, provides an unspoiled taste of nature. Much quieter then its northern neighbor, this area is perfect for a quiet weekend getaway. Ukiah and the north county follow Highway 101, and many places can be found to stop along this path.

Why You Should Come HereSome of the most popular reasons guests come to the Mendocino County coast include wedding and anniversary plans, trips to the coast for fishing and outdoor activities, family trips, or merely to explore a new part of the country. Perhaps you may just want to spend the day strolling through the many marvelous shops in Mendocino and then watch the sunset from a cozy café. One thing is for certain…no matter why you decided to come here…this will surely not be your last trip to Mendocino County.

The Weather ClimateThe coast has a very mild climate, never reaching extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures. However, there can be a lot of rain, so be prepared to bring a rain jacket at certain times of the year. Always call for California road conditions before leaving for any trip to Mendocino County and also make sure you check our Mendocino weather page. The best time to visit the coast is in the fall when the fog stays at bay and the weather is still warm. While the coast can, at times, get quite warm in the summer, it too will never get that cold in the winter, but does indeed get less rain.

The cities and towns of MendocinoThe county is made up of many small towns, located every few miles apart, but no major cities are found inside its borders. Some of the most popular cities to visit are Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Point Arena, Ukiah, Gualala, and Willits. Fort Bragg California is famous for its beautiful coast line, its wonderful annual events held every year, and the working harbor of Noyo. Mendocino California is another great location to visit in the county. The entire village is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Point Arena California is the home of the famous Point Arena Lighthouse. Ukiah California is a large agricultural area, which includes many fine wineries. Heading north you will arrive in the small town of Willits California. The town is known as the gateway to the Redwoods. The most southern town on the coast is Gualala California, located just on the border of Sonoma County and Mendocino County.

Mendocino LodgingSince Mendocino is primarily a travel destination, it should come to no surprise that the county is abundant with lodging options. The most popular lodging choice in the county is bed and breakfast inns, but if you are looking for a nice hotel, you should have a no problem finding one in the county. The area is also a great place to go if you are looking for a camping opportunity or hope to have a great outdoor experience. Mendocino RestaurantsMendocino restaurants are great. The towns of Mendocino, Gualala and Fort Bragg are the places with the most options for restaurants, but don't think that those are the only locations where you will find a good place to eat in the county. There are many quaint restaurants all around the county where you can enjoy a great meal and many of them are part of the same places you will stay, like a bed and breakfast or inn.

Mendocino Events and Festivals
Every year, Mendocino County holds a number of great events and festivals. Since the county is located on the coast and is also one of the up-and-coming wine growing areas in the state, many of the festivals involve the great seafood and wines the county produces. Some of the biggest and most well-known events are the Wine and Crab Festival each January, the Wine and Mushroom Fest in November, the Studio Discovery Tour along the coast, and many more.
